NEW ARRIVAL! Colors of Reywa Cowl Kits

We are thrilled to offer the Colors of Reywa Cowl in the shop and our online store! We fell in love with this gorgeous cowl and the ethical work Reywa Fibers does to support the fiber industry in Tibet. We have a limited number of these kits available, and you can check out our shop sample to see it knit up and feel the softness of the yak down.

From the colorways of the yarn to the geometric motif, the Colors of Reywa Cowl is a tribute to the nomads who roam the Tibetan Plateau and to the yaks which sustain them.

Designed by Rebecca Hall, the cowl is knit from 13 mini-cakes of Reywa Fiber’s Harmony yarn, which is a light, sport-weight blend of 50% Yak Down, 50% Fine Wool. Each nature-inspired colorway evokes an element of the Plateau’s rough and rugged terrain, from its rocky, snow-covered peaks to its sweeping grassy hillsides teaming with summer wildflowers. For her design, Rebecca was inspired by the the colorful geometric patterns found in Tibetan architecture, rugs, and fabric.

Reywa Fiber’s 100% yak down yarns are hypoallergenic, will never pill, are warmer than merino wool, get softer and softer with each wear, and develop a lovely halo over time.

Kit Price: $128. Kit includes:

  • Printed pattern
  • 13 mini-cakes in 12 colors
  • 700+ yards of 50/50 yak/wool yarn
  • Reusable kit bag

Reywa Fibers is a small, family-owned business dedicated to helping the Tibetan people benefit directly from the development and sale of the fiber their animals produce. Profits are invested into Tibetan communities. To learn more, visit Reywa Fibers online.

Knit Locally Book Club: October Meeting

Tuesday, October 2

6:30-8:30 pm

Our October Book Club selection is Ship Fever by Andrea Barrett.

1996 National Book Award Winner for Fiction.

The elegant short fictions gathered hereabout the love of science and the science of love are often set against the backdrop of the nineteenth century. Interweaving historical and fictional characters, they encompass both past and present as they negotiate the complex territory of ambition, failure, achievement, and shattered dreams. In “Ship Fever,” the title novella, a young Canadian doctor finds himself at the center of one of history’s most tragic epidemics. In “The English Pupil,” Linnaeus, in old age, watches as the world he organized within his head slowly drifts beyond his reach. And in “The Littoral Zone,” two marine biologists wonder whether their life-altering affair finally was worth it. In the tradition of Alice Munro and William Trevor, these exquisitely rendered fictions encompass whole lives in a brief space. As they move between interior and exterior journeys, “science is transformed from hard and known fact into malleable, strange and thrilling fictional material” (Boston Globe)

Project Inspiration:

We’ve chosen projects reminiscent of both the floral theme of the book cover and connections to the natural world that are a theme throughout the short stores.

Each of these designs uses sport-weight yarn, and would be stunning knit in our Rosy Green Wool Cheeky Merino Joy, Carol Sunday 3-ply (Eden, Nirvana or Angelic) or Blue Sky Baby Alpaca Sport.

Project Idea: Allodola Shawl by Heather Zoppetti

Project Idea: Allodola Shawl by Heather Zoppetti

The Allodola Shawl, knit in two colors of Oink Pigments Nimbus

Our latest shop sample is a stunner! The Allodola Shawl by Heather Zoppetti uses a clever combination of slipped and cabled stitches to create a unique geometric pattern, while short rows create a fun ruffled edge. The design is perfect to highlight a hand-dyed variegated yarn combined with a complimentary solid or tonal. It is easy to adjust the size or length, as it is knit from edge to edge…simply follow the increases to the desired size, then start decreasing back down!

We knit ours in our new yarn, Nimbus from Oink Pigments. This Merino / Nylon / Cashmere blend is OH.SO.SOFT! Please feel free to come in and touch it for yourself to experience the luscious softness and the beautiful halo. Beth thoroughly enjoyed knitting with it — it’s very easy on your hands! Beth used Oink Pigments Nimbus in the variegated colorway “4 Play” and the solid colorway “Sex&Violets.” You can purchase this combo below (Combination 9) or go for a sparkle version of the same colors! (Combination 5)
