Knit Locally Sweater Society

Join our new Sweater Society and create gorgeous knit or crochet garments! Our Sweater Society is a social stitching group focused on all aspects of sweater knitting. Get advice on pattern/yarn selection, measuring for fit, swatching, construction, and finishing. We will motivate you to make it to the finish line with support along the way–all in great company. We will also have special presentations about sweater knitting techniques.
You CAN knit a sweater!
What if I’ve never knit a sweater before?
Everyone has to start somewhere! If you can knit, purl, increase, and decrease, you can definitely knit a sweater! Most sweater knitting is just plain knitting and purling.
What do you recommend for a first-time sweater knitter?
Our go-to pattern is Flax by Tin Can Knits. It is an easy, free first sweater pattern that comes in a huge range of sizes.
If that doesn’t interest you, we can recommend other styles.
Can you help me choose a pattern or size?
Absolutely! We would love to help with pattern and yarn suggestions, and will help you measure to determine your size, and suggest modifications for a better fit. Not all bodies were created identically, and that’s what makes us uniquely beautiful.
Does it have to be a sweater? Could it be a top?
Yes, all garments are welcome, from tank tops to cardigans. You are also welcome to knit sweaters for the tiny humans in your life, or your furry friends. Those are great ways to start, since they are so much smaller but use the same techniques.
I can’t come every Thursday. Can I still join?
Please! Whether you visit us every week, or every month, or just when you’re in town, you are always welcome.
Do I really have to swatch?
We are not the sweater police and won’t come after you if you don’t. But at least let us try to convince you why it is a good idea, and give you some tips for swatching success.
