Steeking your Knitting: 1:30-4:30 pm

$50

Does the thought of cutting your knitting fill you with dread? Never fear, steeking class is here! Steeking is a process of adding extra stitches with the express purpose of cutting them later. It is used in colorwork projects that are knit in the round and then cut to lay flat, such as a cardigan or vest. This class will cover the process for either reinforcing using the crochet method or the sewn method (no crochet experience necessary.) You will also learn how to pick up for a button band along a steeked edge. For class, you will knit an adorable sheep mug cozy in the round before class, then steek it and add a button band during class. You will be emailed the pattern when you register for the class.

Materials:

  • 50 yards each of two high contrast colors of 100% non-superwash wool in fingering or sport weight yarn
  • Size 2 needles (2.75mm) double points or your preferred method for working in the round
  • Small, sharp scissors
  • C or (2.75 mm) crochet hook
  • Matching yarn for steeking
  • 2 Buttons for mug closure
