Class: I LOVE Crochet Cables with Bonnie Barker

I LOVE Crochet Cables with Bonnie Barker

Saturday, May 26

1 – 4 pm

1 session, 3 hours

$45

Description:

In this class, we will cover many different crochet cables; some using post stitches (Wheat Cable, 4-Post Cable, Honeycomb Cable, Celtic Weave) and some that are worked vertically (Cable Stitch, Arrow Stitch, Low Front Ridge, Knurl.) You will be amazed at how easy it can be to make these beautiful crocheted textures using the crochet hooks you already love. You will leave with many new swatches (and written instructions) plus ideas of how to combine these together into beautiful cabled designs.

Skill Level:

Intermediate

Special Skills Required:

Attendees should be familiar with the basic crochet stitches (sc, dc, tr, slip st, ch) and be able to crochet them in rows without adding or decreasing stitches unintentionally. Confident beginners are welcome to attend if they are able to do the above.

Homework:

It would be very helpful to make at least 6 swatch foundations as follows: “Ch 21, dc in the 4th ch from hook and in each ch across.” This can be done using lighter colored worsted or DK size yarn and the appropriate crochet hook. Any yarn from your stash like this will do. Be sure you have enough yardage to complete 6-10 small swatches

Supplies:

Enough yarn to complete at least 6 to 10 sample swatches and the appropriate hooks for yarn selected

Tandem Cables Scarf by Bonnie Barker

Tandem Cables Scarf by Bonnie Barker, from “Cable Crochet Made Easy.” Knit in Yankee Dyer Yakkity Yak

We’re so excited to have local author and crochet superstar at Knit Locally on Saturday, December 2 from 12-2 for a book signing for her new release, “Cable Crochet Made Easy.” The book features 18 new cabled crochet patterns and includes a wide variety of patterns, including pieces for both men and women as well as the home. As a bonus, each pattern comes with detailed video tutorials to take you through the steps, so you’ll be able to crochet away with confidence!

Our second pattern preview for Bonnie Barker’s newest book, “Cable Crochet Made Easy” is the Tandem Cables Scarf. Just look at that rich texture! Although this looks intimidating, once you get started, the pattern becomes intuitive — plus Bonnie’s video tutorials for both right and left handed crocheters will help you along!

This scarf was knit out of Yakkity Yak by Yankee Dyer, which is available at Knit Locally. This blend of merino, yak, and nylon produces a fabric with incredible drape. We have 14 colors in stock, including the color used in the book sample, “Yak-tober.” Click here for a complete color selection and ordering information.

Book Signing with Bonnie Barker, December 2, 12-2

Join us for this fun event celebrating Bonnie’s newest book! We were fortunate to be able to peek inside this new release, and were so impressed with the variety of patterns on offer. In addition to beautiful accessories for women, such as scarves and ponchos, there is also a great pattern for the men in your life, the “Cables For My Guys” scarf, as well as some beautiful pieces for the home, like the Moher Cabled Throw and Pillow, or the Striped and Cabled Baby Blanket, which are sure to become treasured family heirlooms. For those of you looking for great gift ideas, you’ll swoon over her matching sets, like the Lydia’s Opulence Alpaca Mittens and Matching Headband. There are even fun crocheted bottle covers that would make a fun and quick gift for the beverage lovers in your life.

In addition to the breathtaking photos included in the printed book, each of these patterns comes with complete video tutorials. We love how Bonnie has given you the resources to make your pattern a success (especially for those of us who learn best by watching.)

This week, we’ll be previewing three of the patterns we love, with yarn ideas available in the shop. Check back here or on the blog for a daily pattern preview.
